BESPOKE GARDEN STRUCTURES
The RNLI Garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2022, designed by Chris Beardshaw and awarded a Gold medal. Egidos built the garden alongside Cultura Group and James Gray.
The garden marked almost two hundred years of the RNLI, and set Georgian references against a contemporary frame. A classically inspired green oak pavilion, with carved lettering and turned columns, was spliced into a modern green oak arcade. A Purbeck stone path ran through deep borders of herbaceous planting in whites, blues and pinks, under Chinese elm and Scots pine — both woods once used to build lifeboats. Chelsea gives you a bare plot and a fixed deadline. Everything is cut, fitted and finished in the open, in front of the people who will judge it. The oak work had to be accurate enough to read as a permanent building and quick enough to go up inside the show’s build window.
